As part of our learning process about Web Design we have taken part in some group work. This has been helpful in gaining insight into other peoples perspectives on design and served as good practice for working as part of a design team. As I also joined late, it helped to to integrate more into the class and I enjoyed the social aspect of it also.
The Class task was to develop a multi-platform social media campaign for Hull & East Yorkshire Mind to raise awareness of mental health services. But we where spilt into groups that would focus on different social media platforms.
Our Group Task – “Create a mix of static posts, carousel posts, and Instagram story designs using Adobe Express. Consider incorporating interactive features like polls or questions in the stories and ensure branding consistency across all visuals.”
First we considered the main objectives we had been set – and the best ways to achieve them.
- personal stories
- testimonials
- Insights
- Emphasis on individual impact.
- “Each platform will repurpose and adapt video content into platform-specific assets, driving users back to the full videos on YouTube for in-depth engagement.”
Platform Specific Media.
In order to achieve the above goals, I felt it was very important to represent the mind charity values, and branding. To do this I used the Charity website as a basis for the posts, and then added or subtracted where necessary for a more social media friendly feel. It is important as a designer to consider how different platforms – may effect the type of design and content that is necessary.
Instagram Posts and stories require quick and interactive content, in order to keep people interested. We live in a society that moves quickly now- and people attention is easily lost if they feel bored. This is why we decided to include questions and statistics within our posts.

Here side by side I have included a screen shot of the mind charity website, and then also a screen shot of the first page on my instagram story. I transferred Hex colours to ensure continuity between the two. I also added a button, in order to create interactivity with the viewer an lead them onto the next page.
Above you can see how I used interactivity, along with consistent branding to keep the viewer feeling involved and intrigued with the instagram post – whilst also representing a theme in line with Mind Charity. I was pleased at this point with my work when I was designing, and I still am. I am happy with the brand continuity and also the way I have used graphic design theories to create pages that are balanced and appealing to the eye.
Also important to highlight, is the fact I have included quotes off the Mind Hull website. If we had longer – I would have also liked to include some videos off the Mind Youtube Page, along with the links in order to achieve the original goal of leading people back to you tube content.
Over all as a group, I think we did a great job of working together. We narrowed down the most important parts of the task an achieved all of them. We also worked on our social media post separately, to create a wide range of different work – but also allowed each other advice and support which I found very helpful.
Doing this design task in a group, has helped me to consider what it might be like working as part of a design team in the future. If i was to do the task again, I would have preferred appointing somebody in more of a clear leadership role – as it would have helped make the process smoother if we all had roles and responsibilities assigned.
I feel over all that my work was suitable for the brief and if it was going to be developed into a full design concept I would be able to further advance the idea into a daily or weekly type post.
